Case Study – Port Stephens Koalas

APPA Gold Award Finalist – Sustainable Eco Friendly Initiative – 2022

Client’s Objective

Port Stephens Koala Sanctuary contacted the Get Smart Team to create unique apparel and promotional products to help its growth as a startup company. The objective of this was to create brand awareness and appeal, utilizing comfortable apparel suitable for outdoor use and to help attract more visitors to the park.

Utilising products that are environmentally friendly, high-quality, and useful to its customers and staff, we aimed to create products that tick all the boxes for the park and its visitors.

Challenge

The Get Smart Team was tasked with researching and creating a line of fashionable products that also coincided with the Port Stephens Koala Sanctuary’s Eco-friendly outlook. Researching and designing these products had to not only compliment the branding of the Sanctuary but also reinforce the natural and idyllic bushland setting of the park itself. Doing so whilst keeping the products and procedures environmentally friendly and cost-effective also play a large part in the design process.

Results

All merchandise products met the client’s brief with the majority incorporating an eco-friendly or re-usable element. Complimenting the natural idyllic scenery of Port Stephens, with high-quality, useful, and environmentally friendly products and procedures, further enabling extended brand exposure over the life of each product.

Visitors love buying the merchandise not only because they are useful, environmentally friendly and fashionable, but as it helps build awareness of preserving and protecting Koalas long after they have gone home

The staff and volunteers were proud to wear their uniforms which tied in beautifully with the branding and colours of the natural environment and protected them from sun exposure and the elements of unpredictable weather conditions. Sales exceeded our client’s revenue expectations and encouraged them to expand the range and retail floor space.
